The National Citizens' Crime Prevention Campaign produces ads for television, radio, print (newspapers and magazines), out-of-home (billboards and posters), and the Web. Since 1980, McGruff the Crime Dog® has been the symbol for a nationwide effort to help Americans learn how to Take A Bite Out Of Crime® by making both themselves and their communities safer and better. PSAs are a visible part of this campaign. They have helped educate millions of adults and children and have changed attitudes and behaviors. Boy Band
  Teens can make their own labels by becoming involved in crime prevention activities that make their communities safer. In this Boy Band PSA, teens are asked to label themselves as tutors, mentors, and volunteers.

  This PSA shows children how to handle threatening situations that happen in and around school such as bullies. It encourages kids to try and talk it out with the bully or to find a trusted adult.

The campaign has a dual purpose: to allay fear by helping citizens to establish some measure of control, and provide direction for the powerful readiness to contribute and get involved. It describes specific actions individuals can take to prevent terrorism around five themes: protecting self and family; protecting/comforting children; knowing and caring for neighbors; reporting crimes and suspicious activity; and emergency preparedness.
